The Aletsch Arena boasts one of the greatest natural treasures in the Alps, the Great Aletsch Glacier. From the viewpoints of Moosfluh, Bettmerhorn and Eggishorn we can enjoy extraordinary panoramic views of this immense body of ice and snow that spans 23 km in length from its origins in the Jungfrau region (4,000m) to Massa Gorge (2,500m).

The resort is divided into three areas: Riederalp (1,925m), Bettmeralp (1,950m) and Fiescheralp (2,212m). With a total of 104 kms of slopes this resort offers a large variety of itineraries so that skiers and snowboarders alike, no matter their ability, can enjoy what the resort has to offer. When we had the opportunity to visit the snow conditions were excellent, having benefited from  more than 7m of snow since the start of winter, an occurrence which hasn’t happened since 1999.

Aletsch Arena is popular with Swiss families, although skiers or snowboarders from Germany or Belgium also frequent the resort. The glacier is not the only attraction that draws in the public; on clear days you can see the characteristic pyramid of the Matterhorn in the distance.

The facilities are modern and quick; don’t expect to be able to relax on the climbs to the top. And another thing we really like: no queues!

Keeping track with Skitude

The entire weekend was overcast which brought with it some snow and we were able to ski during the two days which blessed us with unbeatable snow conditions. Through the Skitude app I was able to record each and every one of the descents made along the Aletsch Arena, and so being able to continue accumulating kilometers and slopes in my profile.

A car-free environ ment

We will be able to access the 3 main hubs of the resort: Riederalp, Bettmeralp and Fiescheralp through the different cable cars or lifts that leave from the towns of Mörel, Betten Talstation or Fiesch. All places that are easily accessed by rail from Brig or Visp.

This means that none of the 3 key areas of the resort are overrun with the noise or smog that comes with being frequented by cars or buses, and making the environment a perfect place to enjoy nature, or to go on a quiet walk with the kids.
