You’re using Skitude’s applications more and more to record your ski touring days, and that’s why we decided to put together this post to explain why the platform is the ideal tool when practicing this sport. In fact, this free app allows you to gather information to improve your experience before, during and after your day in the mountains – even without internet connection!
Preparing the day in the mountains with the application
If you decide to head off for a day out at a ski resort, you can consult the weather and snow conditions directly on the application through the Snow Report, Weather Forecast and Webcam sections.
Record all the statistics for the day
Ski touring, which doesn’t involve ascending with mechanical ski lifts but rather with skis on your feet, equipped with ski skins, is a discipline that involves a lot of effort, after which you’ll be pleased to find out about your performance
The application’s GPS Tracker allows you to record your outing by obtaining exact statistics: average speed, maximum speed, gradients, distance covered, etc. These statistics will then be recorded on your Skitude profile so that you can see your progression and your overall statistics accumulated over the season.
The statistics provided by the Skitude platform have been processed by our system. In fact, the GPS on mobile phones is not always totally precise. This is why once your track has been recorded, it is sent to our system which will process the data and correct certain points like elevation errors, gradient calculations, etc.
There are also timed tracks that you can do with the Skitude app, or ski resorts’ official applications. These routes are marked in the resorts and are done with the Tracker. This means you can enter the ranking for the timed route and even win prizes, as certain tracks are linked to challenges. Discover the list of timed routes here.
Discover your performance and tracks
Your tracks recorded with the Tracker and your geotagged photos taken with the application will be stored on your Skitude profile so that you can retrieve them at any time.
Your recorded statistics will also allow you to appear in the specific rankings for ski touring, in which you can compare yourself to other users and ski touring enthusiasts. The rankings are available on the application in the Leaders section, and on the website at http://www.skitude.com/en/leaderboards.
